Month in Review: Top 3 December Posts

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a safe and fun night. Since I just became a Yelp Elite, Jake and I scored free tickets to the New Year’s Eve Party of the Year in Kaka’ako. Food trucks, carnival rides — even live bands and DJ’s at three different stages! There was always something going on. The best part? Firework shows every hour until midnight — starting at 9 pm. We welcomed 2015 while sitting on a grassy hill, right under a spectacular fireworks show.

I know I typically do these monthly round up posts on the last day of the month, but it seems fitting that I’m a day late on this because I can take a minute to look back at December — my favorite month — because it slipped right through my fingers. I definitely got a case of the post-holiday blues after Christmas. You wait for holidays all year and just like that — it’s over!

Well now you guys can relive the holiday magic with me! From the best holiday recipe of the season to some Christmas festivities, let’s take a look back at the Top 3 posts of December 2014:

Our presents under the tree — all nice and wrapped before the chaos.

3) Christmas 2014: Decking Our Halls

I’m already dreading having to take down our little Christmas tree. His branches are drooping, but he still lights up the room like a champ! We bought a little 3 – 5 footer from Home Depot the day after Thanksgiving, and every year I have a hard time parting with it. Click through to see him in all his glory!

But the one thing I’m going to miss most about Christmas? Christmas music. There’s no more reason for me to listen to my holiday Spotify playlist in my car at an obnoxiously loud and cheery volume… There are no longer radio stations that just play Christmas music. I know so many people hate that, but I don’t know how that’s possible. I’ve got to wait a whole year for it to be semi-socially acceptable again!

If you’re already getting ready for next Christmas, you can see my whole playlist here on Spotify.

Part of our award-winning ginger bread house. Santa’s got a whole lot of Hawaiian Sun in his sleigh…

2) ‘Tis the Season: Our award-winning gingerbread house

Jake invited me to be a part of team Hawaiian Sun with some of his co-workers in this year’s Easter Seals corporate gingerbread house competition. It was their first time entering up against seasoned veterans like the Queens Medical Center team. The theme? Christmas songs. Our song? “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer.” Click through to get a look at poor grandma!

Team Hawaiian Sun put a local spin on a classic gingerbread house and managed to walk away with the Best Overall award! The judges were really taken with our creativity, and the coordinators were already looking forward to us defending the title next year! To see the our whole creation, click through!

1) Recipe: Cake batter chocolate chip cookies

My big hit of the holiday baking season were this delicious bites… And the best thing about them is that you can customize the recipe for any occasion! All you’ve gotta do is use some festive sprinkles. Baby shower? Valentine’s Day? Easy. Whip up a batch of these ooey gooey cake batter cookies and no one will be able to keep their hands on them.

I made these as a gift for my co-workers and put a bunch in a Christmas mason jar for each person! Click through to see the recipe and the finished product… There’s no better gift than sweet treats in a reusable jar!

Since we’re talking about baking… If you’ve still got leftover egg nog in your fridge from the holiday season, I’ve got the best way to put it to use! Check out my recipe for these cheesecake egg nog bites! You’re sure to love them.
