Daily: Maui family weekend

The view from our hotel, the Maui Seaside.

So Jake and I got back from Maui late last night. Unfortunately for us, it was raining most of the time we were there. It’s funny because the family we were visiting says it never rains…and it’s always really hot.

Naturally with this in mind, I packed for all hot weather. Shorts, crop tops. No jackets or sweaters. I was so cold by nightfall.

Eating guri guri (Maui’s famous ice cream) poolside.

Despite the rain, we still had a good time and ate a lot of good food. Saturday afternoon is when we got the most sun, so we hit the pool for a few hours before dinner. When the sun shines in Maui, everything is breathtaking.

When we weren’t with relatives at their house, we spent time at the Maui Seaside Hotel, where we were staying with his parents. The inside grounds are pretty nice and well kept.

Strawberry guri guri from the Tasaka Guri Guri Shop.

There are places that you need to try when you visit Maui, and one of those is the Tasaka Guri Guri Shop in Kahului. Similar to Samurai Snacks on Oahu, this shop on Maui is where you can get your local soft serve ice cream fix.

Some of Jake’s family picked us up some to-go containers of the stuff, one box of pineapple and one strawberry. The pineapple was really flavorful, great on a semi-hot day after a swim.

Consider this your introduction to my Maui series of posts that I’ll be starting soon! Unfortunately we didn’t go to Da Kitchen… it’s closed on Sundays and we were too busy on Saturday to make it there. But we were able to check out a couple other cool spots.

So keep an eye out for my upcoming Maui blog post series!
