I don’t think you could get a better view of our islands than from above — and parasailing is one way to do that. I’m also an adrenaline junkie, which you can tell from last week’s pick, so it’s no wonder that I’m choosing to feature my parasailing adventure in this week’s edition of my Top 3 Summer 2013 Picks.
The summer is always an exciting time for me because with it comes my birthday month, June. However this year came with an extra special occasion — the day Jake and I started dating one year ago.
The deal was he would pick the restaurant for dinner, and I would pick the day’s activity. He was thrilled when we walked up to the X-Treme Parasail check-in at the docks along Ala Moana Boulevard — mainly because I tricked him and said we were skydiving. His face was priceless.
Then at the end of the ride you can pay the crew $30 in cash for the SD card they give you to take home, or after you dock you can head back to where you signed in and pay via card there. It’s pretty convenient, seeing as it’s hard to take pictures of yourself if you’re going up.
Plus, I was too scared to take my iPhone 1,000 ft. into the air. I definitely do not trust myself that much. One slip and — plop! Right into the ocean.
I was mentally prepared for this because I had gone parasailing once before, but what I didn’t know was that my dad had told them not to dunk me in too far. My dad unfortunately was not there this time to save me.
I’ve heard people say they feel like the ride is too short — but it felt like a good amount of time to us. You bond up there, bobbing along in the sky. It was a really fun experience I don’t think either of us will ever forget.
Jake and I actually got to go up first, so here’s a tip if you want to do that too: while you’re boarding the boat, position yourself so that your party is the last to board — then most likely you’ll be sitting on the edge nearest to the boat driver. This will guarantee you the first ride out of the 5 – 6 groups on your tour.
If you’re ever in Honolulu, be sure to check out the Groupon offers, as there are some really good parasailing deals if your timing is right!
