Smoothie making 101: Have a good blender

My new Ninja NJ600 Professional Blender!

My new Ninja NJ600 Professional Blender!

I haven’t been on this mission to eat more vegetables for that long now, maybe only a few weeks, but I started down this path to chugging greens with a secondhand blender from a friend who had hardly used hers except for a few times of margarita making. (Aside: I don’t care what anyone says — blended over on the rocks any day.)

That being said, last night I was attempting to make a smoothie when my blender blew up — yes, it really did. The motor gave out and smoke filled the apartment.

I walked into the bedroom where I found Jake perusing his phone. The smoke obviously hadn’t traveled into the room yet. He looked up at me and my wide eyes, unconcerned at first until I mumbled: I think I broke the blender…

I didn’t really expect much from the poor little blender, but I ended up giving it more ice cubes and pineapple chunks than it could chew.

Today I set out to find a successor and bought a Ninja blender from Macy’s (on sale for $99!). Stay tuned, and I’ll let you know how it works!

If you’re a smoothie maker, what kind of blender do you use? Or if you have a Ninja blender, let me know how you like it it the comments below!
